An Overview of Thyroid Cancer Genetics and Inheritance

چکیده
MEN IIB: It is associated with pheochromocytoma, mucosal ganglioneuromas, and marfanoid habitus. This syndrome also presents medullary carcinoma and pheochromocytoma, but only rarely will have hyperparathyroidism. Inheritance isautosomal dominant as in MEN IIA. MEN IIB patients usually get medullary carcinomaearly in life, diagnosed in infancy or early childhood before their 30s, and males andfemales are equally affected.

Point Mutations in RET Proto-Oncogene Exon 10 in Patients with Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma
Background & Aims: Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy. Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is an aggressive malignant tumor arising from parafollicular cells of the thyroid. MTC occurs in hereditary (25%, hMTC) or sporadic (75%, sMTC) forms. The hMTC form has an autosomal dominant inheritance. RET proto-oncogene mutations, especially the 10, 11, and 16 exones, are associated w...
متن کاملThe role of biomarkers in the diagnosis and differentiation of thyroid cancers
Thyroid cancer is one of the most common endocrine cancers in the body, which accounts for approximately 1.8% of all malignancies in Iran and its prevalence is reported to be higher among women than men .This type of cancer is classified into four main subgroups including papillary (PTC), follicular (FTC), medullary (MTC) and Anaplastic (ATC).To differentiate different types of cancer, biopsy m...
متن کاملMedullary thyroid cancer and the impact of genetic testing.
Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) consists of a rare, undifferentiated tumor and often is described as having a chronic and indolent disease process. Approximately 5%-10% of all thyroid malignancies are MTC, and about 25% of patients diagnosed with the disease have a genetic form that was inherited through a mutation of the RET proto-oncogene. The mutation is expressed by an autosomal dominant all...
متن کاملAn Unusual Case of Cauda Equina Secondary to Spinal Metastasis of Thyroid Cancer
Introduction: Cauda equina secondary to metastatic follicular thyroid cancer of the lumbosacral area is a rare entity. Case Report: We report an unusual case of a 52-year-old male who presented with backache, lower limb weakness, and perianal numbness. A CT-scan of the lumbosacral area showed an enhancing mass at the L4, L5 and S1 vertebrae. Histopathology after excision revealed a metast...
متن کاملAdrenocortical Oncocytic Carcinoma and Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Incidentally Detected in an Asymptomatic Patient by F-18 FDG PET/CT
F-18 FDG is the most widely used tracer in molecular imaging and it is applied for many purposes mainly in malignant diseases. Incidental finding are common in FDG-PET/CT imaging and includes benign and malignant lesions. Among the rare tumors , adrenal oncocytomas are uncommon findings and incidental findings of thyroid malignancies are not rare. Oncocytoma is a rare adrenocortical tumor and m...
